Why metal

Why choose a metal roof in Round Rock?

Because of what happened on September 24th, 2023. Baseball- and softball-sized hail came through Round Rock that evening, from Old Town out to Cat Hollow and Teravista. The National Weather Service put the damage across Williamson and Travis counties at $600 million — the costliest hailstorm in Austin-area history, and roughly four times the previous record. Half of that, $300 million, landed in Williamson County.

Two more came through in 2025: hail over two inches on April 22nd across east Round Rock and Georgetown, then another inch and a half on May 28th. Three damaging storms in under two years. That is the weather a Round Rock roof has to answer to, and it is the honest reason people here end up looking at metal.

Common questions

A few things Round Rock homeowners ask us

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Round Rock?
Not for a straight re-roof. The City of Round Rock does not require a permit to replace a residential roof, though the city does require drip edge, and you will need a residential remodel permit if you are changing the roof structure rather than replacing it. Commercial is different: a permit is required for a flat roof replacement, and on a pitched roof only if the decking is being replaced.
Will hail dent my metal roof?
Severe hail can leave cosmetic dents, but metal rarely fails structurally the way shingles do. After September 2023 we saw plenty of shingle roofs written off across Round Rock while metal roofs on the same streets needed nothing but an inspection. Dents are usually cosmetic, and often covered.
Are metal roofs noisy when it rains?
Not really. Over solid decking, underlayment, and attic insulation, a metal roof is about as quiet as shingles. The "loud tin roof" idea comes from open barns with nothing underneath the panels.
